Gardening News #005 - Signs

Of Spring.

Catching up on a lot of old news at the moment.

At some point we had signs of spring 2009.

And no electricity.

And the start of the Kingston Growing Club.

The KGC is an arts 'n' gardening project to develop the boathouse garden along vaguely permacultural lines growing plants for brewing & barbecueing (among other things) and as an outdoor studio/salon space for small audience work, work for documentation, site-specific installation, live art, performance, music and general goings-on.

The Club meets every Wednesday afternoon in the Boathouse gardens.

Thanks to the Squatting Caretakers' gardening volunteer for the snaps.

Gardening News #004

Bit late getting the news to you but the wind turbine in the next field was finally completed in late summer 2008.

It has been suggested that we rename the Boathouse and call it the "Turbine Hall of the North".

As it would then be the second turbine hall that Paul set alight - see this from LIFT.

Norwegians in October

Sindre Bjerga has been wiretapping the secret frequencies of ghostly drones for years now. Though a steady flow of releases on numerous labels around the world he has been channelling the spectral transmissions from the grey void...
Expect psychedelic drones that sometimes collide with snippets of found sounds from half-demagnetized tapes and concrete sounds from wrecked kitchen utensils... www.myspace.com/bjergaiversen
Recent releases: "Crystal cranium, diamond head" (Blackest Rainbow) and "Black Cobweb mind" (Klang und Krach)

HOH constructs delicately assembled leftfield poptunes with a highly personal twist.. Bits and pieces of industrial pop-gush, weirdly lush melodies and and crunched breaks... Released the album "Bestemor" last year to high critical acclaims... www.myspace.com/hoh2 and www.hohmusic.no
Recent releases "Bestemor" (NuMusic) and "We can work it out" (Zang)

Gardening News #003.1

Mystery Plant Revealed !

Well, thanks to our mystery plant running to seed we are now able to reveal that it is a variety of honesty - "The flowers are followed by translucent, disk like, round seed pods that are often used in flower arrangements." - Variegated White Honesty - Lunaria annua ‘Alba Variegata’ - never really noticed the foliage on honesty before and not a plant for making teas - from Plants For A Future: "Edible. Seed - cooked. A pungent flavour, they are used as a mustard substitute." Definitely a packet of seed that someone's chucked around. The next mystery plant will be put up here as soon as it's flowered and the photos are available. Unless it turns out to be the ordinary honesty - which is a possibility at the moment - "Lunaria annua ‘Alba Variegata’ self-seeds freely but the seedlings are not likely to have the same leaf or flower colour."
